Although just about everyone has one, most people do not really know how to create a resume. In this day and age it is very difficult to get hired without some type of resume. This is because most employers require a resume as part of the application process. However, candidates who really know how to create a resume that stands out are likely to be more successful than those who lack these skills. In this article we will provide the basic steps you need to write a winning resume.

The first step in writing a resume of any kind is to really think about your previous work experience. During this process think about the skills you possess, the experiences you have had and what you have learned from these experiences. This exercise will put you on a solid path to creating a great resume.

Next it is very important to really think about what the employer is looking for in a potential employee. The job advertisement placed by the employer will provide the most useful clues.

Most employers make things easy on potential employees by including a list of skills. This list may be broken down into a list of required skills and a list of preferred skills. Armed with this information, your resume should be tailored to highlight the skills you have which will be useful in this position.

Once you know what information you want to include in your resume, it is time to start thinking about the formatting. You have a number of options for formatting your resume. However, whatever option you choose should be designed to be easy on the eye. The design should be clean and simple. Using page breaks to separate sections of the resume is recommended. The sections to be included may vary based on your industry. However, in general they should include sections for your education, your previous work experience and your objective.

How Easy Is It To Use?

Often you can’t tell how simple a product is to use until you actually use it - then it’s too late to find out it’s no good. You can get an idea, though, with a bit of (research. For those companies offering online resume builders, visit their websites and see that they navigate smoothly, that key information is readily available and well organized. Odds are their creators will also be well organized and simple to use.

Can resume software make a difference? It can. Keep in mind that it won’t write the resume for you. Still, a good resume creator can do the heavy lifting of template design, layout and organization, formatting, help with phrasing, and error checking. And that might be just enough to fight your way out of the dog pile.

How do i create a written resume

Below are some sample resumes for your reference:

http://www.resume-resource.com/samples.html

Here are some guidelines:
1. If you have less than 10 years of experience, you want your resume to be one page.
2. Generally, clearly show your name, mailing address, email address if available, and best phone number(s) to contact you.
3. Then show your education, work experience, any interests, achievements, and skill sets. Under your work experience, it is not a list of your job descriptions (this is a common mistake). You should instead indicate what you have accomplished and the results. Use action verbs.
4. If you are looking for your first job or intend to change job function / industry, you may want to state your objectives.
4. There is no one “correct” format. It depends on your profession and personal style.
5. Also, try not to use technical words and jargons. Do not abbreviate.

You can post your resume at:
http://www.monster.com
http://www.careerbuilder.com
http://hotjobs.yahoo.com

I would also go to your bookstore and find a resume book in the business/career section. You can also find more examples and templates online if you do a search.

Good luck and have a nice day.

I’m 17, I really need a job, and I’m quite naive as to what a resume even really is. How do I make one? Can I even make one, since I’ve never worked?

Get an application from any local business you would like to work for. Then you will see what kind of information they want and the format. You do not need to have work experience to have experience. If you are going to work at a restaurant, talk about helping mom prepare dinner and feed a hungry family. Even washing dishes is experience. If you are to be a teachers aid at a day care, talk about babysitting. Yard work prepares you for a job at a nursery, and selling girl scout cookies prepares you for retail jobs. You just use whatever you have done that you think will make you good at the job you are applying for. One more thing, do not make one application and pass it out to all the different places you want to work. Make one out for each job or each type of job. Emphasis on what prepares you for each job is very important.

I am currently attenting college majoring in nursing and I really want a job in a hospital/nursing home setting. I don’t have previous job expereince except for babysitting. I also don’t know what I should put down as my objective. And do I have to provide a cover letter? Thanks!

Do I make sub sections for each new position or should I just make it all in one section?

In the Professional Work Experience section of your resume, create a separate section for each position you’ve held. In each section, indicate:

- the title of the position,
- the name of the company (which will be the same for all the sections),
- city, state,
- start month, year and end month, year.

Describe your accomplishments and job responsibilities for each position. If space permits, you may want to create a section titled Accomplishments for each job.

Make sure your resume addresses the needs of the employer.
